Indian Premier League (IPL) 2019 will be inaugurating auspiciously on 23rd of March 2019 with a match between Chennai Super Kings, the defending Champions and Royal Challengers Bangalore. IPL is celebrating its 12th season this year and its bigger than ever. All the previous teams are returning to the tournament with brand new players and some minor changes. The Delhi Daredevils franchise has changed its name to Delhi Capitals. Rajasthan Royals have opted to change the color of their jersey to pink which is another special feature of IPL 12. The rest of the 6 teams namely Chennai Super Kings, Kings XI Punjab, Kolkata Knight Riders, Mumbai Indians, and Sunrisers Hyderabad will contest in IPL with some extraordinary new players.

As per the tradition, the auction for IPL 12 had happened in December and many new players entered the franchises to play side by side with the veterans. IPL 2019 will see the return of all the major players that have been a part of IPL 2018 except for a few like Brendon McCullum, Alex Hales, Mushfiqur Rahim, etc. Among the auctioned players Jayadev Unadkat and Varun Chakravarthy were the most expensive players with 8.4 crores.

The matches will be organized in the usual venues namely M Chinnaswamy Stadium, Bangalore, Feroz Shah Kotla Stadium, Delhi, Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium, Hyderabad, Sawai Mansingh Stadium Jaipur, Eden Gardens, Kolkata, Punjab Cricket Association IS Bindra Stadium, Mohali, Wankhede Stadium Mumbai, and M A Chidambaram Stadium Chennai.

The schedule for the first 17 matches had recently been released. The rest of the schedule will be announced after the announcement of the schedule of Lok Sabha Elections.

VIVO IPL 2019 Playoffs Update

After the most exciting 56 League matches, Chennai Super Kings, Delhi Capitals, Mumbai Indians and Sunrisers Hyderabad have reached the playoffs. While CSK, MI, and DC have earned 18 points each, SRH team had earned a place in the playoffs with just 12 points. The team had the equal number of points along with KKR and KXIP but qualified for the playoffs because of the better run rate.

CSK, led by MS Dhoni was the first to qualify for the playoffs. The team had won 9 matches out of 14 and is currently in the second position in the points table. Delhi Capitals, led by Shreyas Iyer was the second to reach the playoffs and currently is at the third position in the points table. Rohit Sharma led Mumbai Indians earned the same number of victories but occupied the top position with a positive run rate of 0.421. Sunrisers Hyderabad had won in 6 matches but hold a run rate of +0.577 compared to its competitors KKR and KXIP that bear +0.028 and -0.021 respectively.

The Qualifier matches are scheduled from 07th May to 10th May. Mumbai Indians and Chennai Super Kings will play the Qualifier 1 on 07th May. DC will play against Sunrisers Hyderabad in the Eliminator match on 8th May. The losing team of Qualifier 1 will play against the winning team of Eliminator match in the Qualifier 2 on 10th of May. The Final match is scheduled between the winner of Qualifier 1 and Qualifier 2 on 12th May 2019 in Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium, Hyderabad.

VIVO IPL 2019 League Updates

The Defending Champions, Chennai Super Kings made their way into the IPL with a victory over Royal Challengers Bangalore in the first match. RCB conceded for a meager total of 70 runs which CSK had chased with ease.

Though the Beginning was slow, the second match between SRH vs KKR proved to be entertaining. SRH scored a fantastic total of 181-3 with the contribution of David Warner 85, and Vijay Shankar 40. The match was thought to be in the hands of SRH was saved by Nitish Rana's 68 runs and Andre Russell's monstrous 49 in 19 Balls. KKR won that match with flying colors and needless to say, Andre Russell was the player of the match.

The next match was MI vs DC in which Delhi managed a massive score of 213 Runs in the 20 overs. MI failed to chase the target but Yuvraj Singh managed to steal the spotlight with his half-century.

Rajasthan Royals played Kings XI Punjab in the fourth match in which Kings XI Punjab was victorious. Chris Gayle again stole the spotlight with his 79 runs from 49 balls. The fifth match was between Delhi Capitals and Chennai Super Kings in which Chennai was victorious. KKR vs KXIP was the next match in which KKR scored a good total of 218 runs that Punjab failed to chase. Andre Russell displayed his usual monstrosity over the bowlers to score 48 in just 17 balls becoming player of the match once again.

The next match between RCB and MI was quite eventful. MI scored 187 runs and RCB had to chase. The match was going well until the 18th over that was bowled by Jasprit Bumrah. Bumrah managed to restrict the shower of runs by De Villiers and took the wicket of Colin de Grandhomme crippling the RCB team. They needed 17 runs from the last over which Lasith Malinga managed to restrict making the MI victorious.

In the next match between SRH and RR, RR managed to score a good total of 198 runs with Sanju Samson scoring a century. Unfortunate for RR, SRH managed to chase the score and win the match. The 10th match between KKR and DC went on to become a tie and a super over decided the fate of the match in which Kagiso Rabada of DC defended DC's 10 runs in Super over in the super over. It was a historic win for DC.

The 11th match between RCB and SRH was again a thrilling entertainer. Two batsmen Johnny Bairstow and David Warner, of SRH that batted first managed to score centuries creating a record for highest opening partnership in IPL. Needless to say, SRH won the match over RCB. The 12th match between CSK and RR was exciting too. MS Dhoni scored a much needed 75 runs in 46 balls leading CSK to a total of 175 runs. RR failed to reach the score making CSK victorious in the third match it played.

Another historic match was between KXIP and DC in which KXIP scored 166 runs and DC was supposed to chase the match. DC lost 7 wickets in the span of two overs scoring just 8 runs in the time period. Sam Curran who was also the player of the match in the game took out 4 wickets in just 2.2 overs with an economy of 4.71. KXIP stood out as the winner of the match.

Of the rest of the matches, the prominent one was the 21st match between RR and KKR where KKR beat RR by 8 wickets. Steve Smith of RR scored a whopping 73 runs in the match contributing to the team's total but KKR managed to chase it with ease. The KKR vs DC match (26th) was another mention-worthy one in which Delhi won by 7 wickets. Shikhar Dhawan made a wonderful score of 97 contributing to the team's victory. Royal Challengers Bangalore's 8 wicket win over Kings XI Punjab is the 28th match that made the audience exhilarated. Chris Gayle of KXIP scored 99 runs in 64 balls but the team could not stand the half-centuries by Virat and de Villiers.

The most notable match of all was the 38th one between Sunrisers Hyderabad and Kolkata Knight Riders. KKR made a total of 159 runs in the 20 overs and SRH chased that with just a loss of 1 wicket. David Warner and Johnny Bairstow scored 67 and 80 runs each improving SRH's run rate dramatically. This victory contributed to SRH's positive run rate leading it into the playoffs. The next match between RCB and CSK can also be stated as a nerve-wracking one. MS Dhoni in the chase of 161 runs stood tall and scored 84 runs in 48 balls when all other batsmen of the team had failed. The team had failed to chase the score by just one run but the match was exhilarating for all the audience that had watched it.
