Delhi Assembly Elections Live Updates

Delhi Legislative Elections are scheduled on the 8th of February 2020. The State has 70 seats and 36 are necessary to gain a majority. Currently, AAP is the leading party with 67 seats and NDA holds 3. The other biggest National Party Indian National Congress won no seats in the 2015 elections. Arvind Kejriwal, the leader of the Aam Aadmi Party is the current Chief Minister of Delhi.

Aam Aadmi Party is contesting in 70 seats in the upcoming elections while the opposition parties BJP is contesting in 67, Janata Dal (United) is contesting in 2 and Lok Janshakti Party is contesting in 1. The three parties are a part of NDA and Indian National Congress contesting in 66 seats, Rashtriya Janata Dal contesting in 4 are under UPA. On the other hand, the Bahujan Samaj Party which is not in alliance with any of the above-mentioned parties is contesting in 70 seats.

The Ipsos opinion polls suggest a reduction in the vote share of AAP indicating that the party might win 52% of the votes while BJP is at 32%. The increase in the BJP vote share is 1.7 percentage points while the AAP vote share reduced by 2.5. All the opinion polls carried out by ABP News, IANS, Times Now suggest a lead for AAP indicating that it might retain the government for 5 more years.

The election schedule has been announced by the Election commission of India on the 6th of January. The polling is scheduled on 8th February and the Counting of Votes will take place on 11th February 2020.
